Can CBD Improve Intimacy Issues?

Written by Steven Bridge

From CBD oil tinctures to CBD lubricants, there’s a range of different products at one’s disposal in this day and age. Some studies suggest CBD can even help couples with intimacy issues

There are seemingly many ways that CBD can help people between the sheets. Some people who have Erectile Dysfunction (ED) use CBD to relieve anxiety. Others claim that CBD boosts their libido and even their sexual performance. Some use products like intimate lubricants which contain CBD instead of synthetic chemicals; the list goes on and on.

Dean McDermott and Tori Spelling even made the news when they admitted to using CBD oil as a sexual lubricant. They said in an interview that as well as “tightening the vagina,” CBD oil made things last longer. CBD, short for cannabidiol, is a naturally occurring compound in cannabis and hemp and is used for a variety of therapeutic and medicinal conditions. There’s also some research to suggest that CBD is useful for inflammation in the pelvis, period cramps, and undue dryness.

The Research

An interesting study published by Remedy Review found that CBD helped some people between the sheets. 502 people who are sexually active and use CBD in one way or another were surveyed for the study, and the results were rather telling. While more than 70% of both men and women experienced stronger orgasms with CBD, around 66% reported feeling less anxiety related to sex. 31% of the men questioned claimed they were able to last longer in bed by using CBD, while 33% of the women said they reached orgasm quicker after taking CBD.

Those statistics bear out the fact that CBD is useful when it comes to intimacy, but it’s also used to treat other things. CBD has been shown in clinical trials to work as an anti-inflammatory, antioxidant, anti-bacterial, and is used to treat anxiety, pain, and insomnia, among other conditions. It stands to reason that CBD could be helpful for some people who experience anxiety in general or specifically when it comes to sex.

In other words, CBD doesn’t in any work like ED drugs such as Viagra but somewhat calms the nervous system instead. With that said, CBD is known to be a vasodilator, meaning it increases blood flow and vascular supply, which is associated with erections.

According to Dr. Leah Zachar, an expert in the field of CBD, “CBD activates the serotonin receptors, thereby acting as a natural anti-depressant. CBD decreases anxiety by decreasing the degradation of anandamide, the “bliss” hormone.” She also spoke about the general effect of CBD on nervousness, in a CBD Testers post, “CBD decreases the “worry” factor that may be associated with adequate sexual performance. The result is less tension, restlessness, and an improved ability to experience the “moment” of sexual intimacy,” she wrote.

Dr. Zachar also believes that CBD is a much better option than THC (the psychoactive compound in cannabis). This is because “THC decreases the sympathetic tone of the penile vessels, thus [theoretically] making an erection difficult to obtain and maintain,” says Zachar. She also spoke about CBD as an aid for premature ejaculation. “CBD reduces the “performance caused anxiety,” which is the primary cause of premature ejaculation,” she wrote. “The anxiolytic effects of CBD allows the erection to be maintained for a longer length of time, thus allowing for successful penetration and a better “timed” ejaculation.”

Final Thoughts

While CBD isn’t clinically proven to be useful for ED and other sexual conditions, there is much evidence to suggest it is effective. Even if it isn’t, CBD is non-toxic, non-psychoactive and non-addictive. The crux of the matter is that CBD reduces anxiety in many people, and it’s often the anxiety that surrounds sexual intimacy, which affects people in bed.

Being relaxed, in a good frame of mind in a consensual sexual environment with a loved one, is the main factor. CBD can help in many ways and can even be used as a lubricant or a topical for soreness or irritation. When buying CBD, always read the label and ensure you are purchasing products from reputable CBD vendors.
