About the Event
Awakening 2023, which takes place in LA from July 27th to 29th, will bring together some of the world’s leading psychedelic researchers, practitioners, healers, activists, and business leaders. Participants will “discover the potential of plant medicine and psychedelics such as magic mushrooms, ayahuasca, cannabis, LSD, and MDMA and how they are being used to treat a variety of mental and physical conditions. These disorders include anxiety, depression, addiction, PTSD, ADHD, Autism, sleep deprivation, and pain.”
The event will include over 30 speakers, numerous exhibits, artists, musicians, and more. Attendees can look forward to learning about a variety of topics from speakers of many different backgrounds, a detailed investment forum, live psychedelic music performances, a VIP reception and after-party, healing workshops and more. Also worth noting, is that food will be provided, and the event coordinators are putting together a lovely spread of vegan and vegetarian dishes.
Awakening is hosted by The Psychedelic Institute, a non-profit organization that provides educational forums, conferences, and meetings that are paving the way for all sectors of the industry to grow, from research and development, to business opportunities, therapeutic applications, and more. Their goal is to provide the most accurate and current information available to both the general public and industry stakeholders alike. A lot of what they offer is free, including access to Awakening 2023.
Navigating Los Angeles
Awakening will take place at Hazy Los Angeles, a full-service production studio and event venue located in the heart of downtown LA, a couple blocks away from dodger stadium. If you’re new to LA, the sheer size and insane traffic can be overwhelming, so let’s cover a few tips for getting around the city.
Although public transportation is available, the metro system (which includes buses and trains) is somewhat limited. Frankly, the best way to get around LA is by car; preferably a personal vehicle, be it your own or a rental, but rideshare options are also available. You can also use one of the many apps available like Turo or Transit to help you rent cars or figure out public transport options.
If you do have a car but don’t want to stay in Downtown, there are a lot of interesting surrounding areas that are a pretty easy commute. You can go Northwest to San Fernando Valley, where Glendale and Burbank are close by and offer numerous amenities. To the Northeast, you have Pasadena which is also a great option. And if you’re feeling something more scenic, you can head west to the Topanga Canyon area, where you have a handful of state parks and The Getty Museum nearby.

What’s great about this event is that general admission is free! Because the facilitators really believe in psychedelics and want people to learn more about them, they are offering a free “general admission” ticket, which includes access to all exhibit booths, music and art galleries, workshops and sound healing.
The ticket display is a bit confusing on Eventbrite, but there is another option also marked as “general admission”, however, this one includes access to the conference room for the speakers and panel discussions, which the free ticket does not. This ticket costs $197.
