So you’ve decided you want to give CBD a shot, but you don’t know where to start? Our medical adviser Dr. Leah Zachar MD can help you find your dose with some basic dosing information about CBD.
General guidelines for CBD dosing.
- Decide if you want cannabidiol full-spectrum or cannabidiol isolate.
- Decide what delivery system you prefer. Cannabidiol is available in tinctures (oils), sprays, vapes, smokables, topicals, capsules, edibles, softgels, syrups, crystals (isolate), and dabs (isolate).
- Begin with a low dose, especially if you have no experience with cannabidiol.
- Take a few small doses over the course of the day rather than one big dose.
- Don’t overdo it. “Less is more” is the best advice to follow.
- Use the same dose for several days. Observe the effects, & then if necessary adjust the amount.
- Cannabidiol is a safe product, but depending upon delivery system, your tolerance, & interactions, one must always be careful.
- Be cautious if you are pregnant, breastfeeding, have a malignancy, or potential life-threatening illness.
- Cannabis compounds have biphasic properties, which means that low and high doses may produce opposite effects. A very high dose of cannabidiol may be less effective than a moderate dose.
- Cannabidiol has no known adverse effects at any dose, but you should consult your health provider regarding any potential drug interactions.
- Consult with your healthcare professional regarding specific dosing.
Take home point:
Medical cannabis needs to be SELF-titrated to find the correct dosage for each patient. Everyone’s endocannabinoid system is different. Some people’s endocannabinoid system is very sensitive and reacts to low doses. Some have a very tolerant endocannabinoid system and will react to only high doses. Yet other people’s endocannabinoid system may vary with the time of the day or the time of the month.
