The 5 Most Common CBD Myths Debunked

Written by Alexandra Hicks

CBD has become increasingly popular in the last few years and people are trying to find out as much as possible about the miracle extract.

But as is the case with anything that finds its way in the public’s eye, a lot of misinformation is currently being spread about cannabidiol. Not all of it is bad necessarily, but it’s inaccurate. So today we’re going to dispel some of the most common myths surrounding CBD.

Myth 1: CBD is 100% Legal in All 50 States

This is only partially true. According to federal law, farmers in the United States are prohibited from growing hemp. However, many companies can sell CBD within the states, as long as it was extracted from imported hemp and has no more than 0.3% THC. Former President Barack Obama passed the Farm Bill in 2014 which allows hemp to be grown in the US at universities and government institutions, for research purposes only.

Myth 2: CBD Oil Will Get You High

Absolutely, 100% false. CBD is completely non-psychoactive, THC is the cannabinoid that produces a high. No matter how you decide to consume your cannabidiol – oil, tincture, vape, topical, etc. – you won’t get high and it won’t show up on a drug test.

Myth 3: You Need a Prescription to Obtain CBD

For some reason, a lot of people don’t even bother shopping for cannabidiol because they think a prescription is necessary to obtain it, but this couldn’t be further from the truth. If you’re in need of full-flower medical marijuana or other THC products, then you would most likely need a medical marijuana recommendation from a licensed doctor. For only CBD though, no prescription is necessary and it can be purchased online, in any state or country.

Myth 4: CBD Derived from Cannabis is Better Than CBD derived from Hemp

This is just false, plain and simple. CBD is the same whether it’s derived from cannabis or hemp. What truly matters is the quality of the plant, and the extraction method that’s used.

Myth 5: CBD Oil is Only Safe for Adults

Cannabidiol is safe for people of all ages, young and old. As a matter of fact, studies show that CBD is more effective for treating certain ailments in children than adults – Dravet Syndrome for example, which is an advanced form of epilepsy. CBD has also proven to be beneficial in treating epilepsy, autism, ADHD and many other neurological conditions in children and teens.

Conclusion

Now that we’ve laid most of the major CBD myths to rest, hopefully everyone can feel more comfortable about giving it a try.
