For many people there’s a strong connection between cannabis and sex, and there’s a reason for that, as it’s backed up by research which looked at the interesting effects of cannabis on hormones in both men and women
However, we’d like to introduce you to the wonderful world of ‘microdosing,’ a way of taking cannabis but remaining alert without so much of the ‘stoned’ feeling. It’s well documented that cannabis numbs the genitals in both men and women, and while that can be good for some, it isn’t necessarily great for others. There’s also the relaxed and uninhibited state-of-mind many experience when taking cannabis, which is often very conducive to good intimacy.
While this subject isn’t rich in scientific research as yet, there’s no question that cannabis and sexual intimacy have a strong connection for many, while some people couldn’t imagine getting down between the sheets while high, for others it’s a must. And that’s where microdosing comes in, a happy medium, if you will…
We have asked Dr. Leah Zachar, CBD Testers’ medical adviser, what is the most effective way to microdose with CBD? This is her answer:
“Without question, the most efficient way to microdose is by vaping CBD. When you vape, the effects are felt within minutes. You know immediately if you need more, or if you have already received the desired effect. If you do need more, then you can just take another couple of puffs, and re-evaluate in a few minutes.” (Dr. Leah Zachar)
According to Dr. Nick Karas, a sexologist and acclaimed author, “Microdosing is one of the most important and often overlooked aspects of using cannabis to improve sexuality and intimacy. Master your unique combination of strain, dosage and intention. Detach from the outcome and expectations and enjoy the journey,” he said.
As a great example, many men who suffer from premature ejaculation find sexy time with their partner more of a chore than a pleasure. But just one small puff of a cannabis joint, vaporizer, or edible, and many will find their genitals to be less sensitive, thus enhancing their performance and mutual enjoyment in bed.

That said, as is always the case, there is evidence to the contrary, and many folks have a hard time in bed if they took cannabis before getting between the sheets. As with many medications, there is a large degree of trial and error here, as what’s good for the goose isn’t always good for the gander. In that respect, microdosing is a must-try, and certainly safer than messing with strong pharmaceutical drugs like Viagra as a first port of call.
There is also another vital factor here, and that’s the strain of cannabis that you microdose with. THC, the main compound in cannabis associated with feeling high, can make some novices paranoid or give them a feeling of being out of control. The solution for them is to choose a weaker cannabis strain, and even one which is noted to have a higher CBD content, as CBD the other main cannabis compound) counteracts the heady sensations of THC.
The general principle for microdosing is “start low and go slow.” That means one should opt for that weaker strain and just take a small amount, whether inhaling or consuming via an edible.
