Why You Should Buy Hemp Flower By The Pound

Since hemp was made legal following the passing of the 2018 Farm Bill, a thriving demand for smokable hemp flower has bloomed across the country. 

Lots of farms have recognized this growing demand and have turned their hand to growing premium hemp flower on a large scale. And that means, at the moment, there is a huge amount of hemp becoming available to an ever-growing number of hemp flower enthusiasts

And some hemp flower vendors have so much product for sale that they can sell it direct to the consumer by the pound. For under $300, you could have a pound of premium hemp flower delivered to you door. But why would you buy hemp flower in such large quantities? What are the advantages over buying small amounts? Usual weights explained

Before we look at the pros of buying bulk hemp flower, here’s an explanation of the common weight measures used to buy cannabis and hemp.  

  • Gram

Grams are used when buying small amounts of hemp or cannabis flower. A gram of premium hemp flower can cost as much as $10. This will tend to be small-batch, high-grade hemp. CBG-rich flower also often retails at around the $10/gram mark. 

  • Ounce – including eighth, quarter, half

An ounce is just over 28 grams (28.3495, to be exact). This is a popular weight for buying hemp, and many stores have good offers on ounces. You might also here the terms eighth, quarter, half. These are divisions of an ounce – so an eighth is an eighth of an ounce (about 2.5g), a quarter is approximately 7g, and a half is just over 14g.  

  • Pound

A pound is 453.592 grams. That’s almost half a kilogram. 

  • Kilogram

A kilo is 1,000 grams. 

Benefits of buying bulk

A pound is not usually available to consumers and is generally reserved for wholesale customers. However, if you can get your hands on one, it can be very attractive. Here are a few reasons why:

  • Save money

The more you buy, the cheaper it is per gram. A pound costing $250 works out at 55¢/gram. Now that’s cheap.  

  • Share with friends

The savings made when buying a pound could savings could also be spread among a group of like-minded, hemp-loving friends. If you know a few people who could be interested, this could be a very viable way of buying hemp flower at a great price. 

  • Make infusions, tinctures, edibles

One great thing about having lots of hemp is the ability to experiment with making your own infusions, tinctures, and edibles.  

  • Stock up in case of reduced quality, price increase

Another reason to buy a pound of hemp is to stock up on a high-grade product. Recent USDA rules have tightened up regulations of the industry. This could see a limited amount of compliant products available on the market as genetics that reliably produce less than 0.3% total THC are rare. Prices are also expected to increase, so buying bulk now could be smart. 

Conclusion

Whether you’re used to buying hemp by the gram or ounce, there are some incredible deals for bulk orders. A pound (453g) of premium hemp flower can cost less than $300. 

It may sound like a lot, but there are some good reasons why it might be a good idea to buy hemp buy the pound. For starters, it works out ridiculously cheap (less than a dollar a gram) and could keep you stocked up for a long time. 

It could also be a good idea to split a pound with friends or family, so you can all benefit from the savings. Making your own products is another option. Despite the obvious benefits of having heaps of hemp, with incoming regulations tightening up the industry, it could be a wise move to stock up on high-grade product before it becomes rarer and more expensive.
