Adventures with Flowers: The Paint Sesh SoCal

Whether you prefer THC Flowers or CBD Buds – joints, blunts, pipes or vapes; I’m sure you know all too well, it can difficult to find fun activities that allow you to partake in a bit of blazing.

Luckily, in this day and age (depending on where you live), the demand for social activities where one can smoke or vape a bit has spawned a new trend, the “Puff and whatever”. Now this can be Puff and Cooking – cooking classes that allow you to smoke while you work on your culinary skills, Puff and Karaoke, Puff and Pottery, and the list goes on.

But today we’re looking a specific class, one that I personally attended, a Paint and Puff class in SoCal known as The Paint Sesh.

The Paint Sesh has classes all over Southern California, with both ‘Paint n Puff’ and ‘Paint and Sip’ (wine) on offer. However, their cannabis friendly ‘Puff’ class, which is of particular interest to us, takes place only in San Bernardino. In the interest of discretion, the exact location is only sent out via email once a ticket is purchased.

Upon arrival, my friend and I were greeted by two local artists who own and operate the establishment, Chris and Chelz. The vibe there was exactly what I expected and hoped it would it be: a casual and comfortable set up with California-themed ‘stoner music’ playing in the background, long tables with all the required art supplies, and of course, an ashtray at every seat.

We were among the first ones there, so I chatted a bit with Chelz while waiting for everyone to arrive. I asked her how she got started in this niche. “We used to work somewhere else but really wanted to find a more relaxed and cannabis-friendly environment where we could be creative,” explained Chelz. “It’s a cool place where people can come hang out, smoke, meet people, and paint. We’re not bothering anyone you know, just getting together and painting.”

As the class filled up, we all got settled in our seats and began to set up our stations. People were rolling joints and blunts, packing bowls, and getting concentrates ready – of both THC and CBD flowers. Once instruction started, a pipe packed with some top-shelf buds started making its way around the room.

The painting of the night, titled Growth, is a lovely work depicting an abstract human figure turning into a colorful tree of life. Chelz provided easy to follow, step-by-step instructions and both her and Chris walked around the room periodically to help anyone who needed it.

Between the smoking and music, it was easy to just get lost in what I was doing and really enjoy the process of painting. Chelz not only taught us how to paint that specific piece, but she also gave us some helpful tips and techniques that we can take home with us, should anyone ever want to ‘Paint and Puff’ on their own time.

After 2 seemingly short hours, our paintings were complete. I’ve personally never painted before in my life so I followed the instructions to a T. However, quite a few people in the class got creative and did their own thing entirely, so it was fun to see the variation in artwork at the end of the class.

In short, it was a blast and I would totally recommend The Paint Sesh to anyone who wants to get out of the house and smoke a little at the same time. And as an added bonus, with Chelz’s helpful instructions, I ended up with a painting I was actually proud of.

Friendly tip: This is a B.Y.O.C. event (Bring Your Own Cannabis), so make sure you don’t show up empty handed. And having a couple extra lighters with you never hurts. Enjoy!

Disclaimer: Just like when attending an establishment that serves alcohol, if you consume cannabis, make sure to give yourself enough time to sober up before driving. If you ever feel too intoxicated to drive, call a friend, relative, or car service for assistance.
