Medical Benefits Of Recreational CBD

Recreational CBD lifestyle
Written by Dr. Leah Zachar

CBD (Cannabidiol) is one of 400 chemicals found in the cannabis plant which has been around since ancient times.  CBD, even when used recreationally, does not get you “high”.  CBD inhibits the breakdown of the hormone, anandamide, which results in feelings of well-being.

Why do people use CBD recreationally? Is it because of any medical benefits it might be having? People use recreational cannabis for many valid reasons.  The most popular one is that after a long day, or just to “get though the day” people want to relax.  This does not mean that people want to get “high” in the head, but rather, need a little assistance in coping with the stressors of daily life. The tension produced by these stressors can result in anger.  Anger can lead to hurtful words or actions that cannot be undone.  Recreational CBD completely obliterates this potentially self-destructive behavior and allows one to relax, focus, and become more productive at work, and more personable in social settings.

Many of these same people who use CBD recreationally suffer with diseases that cannot be treated or are incompletely treated by conventional pharmaceuticals.  Some of those receiving conventional medications also suffer from the drugs’ serious side effects.  In addition, many of those receiving Western medicines have already become addicted to these same medications and are searching for alternatives.

CBD is not a substitute for primary medical care.  CBD is not a magical cure for all diseases.  CBD is not dangerous or toxic.  CBD is not addictive, and in fact, is used to treat addiction.

CBD works through our own endocannabinoid system.  This is a physiological system we have in our bodies which is active from the first beat of our heart until our very last breath. The purpose of our endocannabinoid system is to restore and maintain balance at the cellular level.  When our endocannabinoid system is out of balance, we become ill.

The prevailing medical theory of many researchers and scientists, including myself, is that endocannabinoid deficiency contributes to disease.  In other words, if your body does not make enough natural endocannabinoids, you feel unwell.  The “type” of sickness you develop depends on your own body’s predilection.

For example, some people are predisposed to depression, while others are predisposed to insomnia.  Some people are predisposed to migraines, while others are predisposed to anxiety. When one is low in endocannabinoids, taking CBD will restore one’s physical, mental, and emotional balance.  By restoring the endocannabinoid deficiency with cannabidiol, one’s depression, insomnia, migraine, and anxiety are successfully controlled.

Take home point: The ONLY “side effects” of using CBD recreationally are its medical benefits.

  • It’s interesting that CBD hemp has the same positive effect on exercise that full-spectrum cannabis does – i.e. it makes you “feel” the exercise much more, which leads to you to getting far more out of it. This is a great thing for many people as getting up early to do an hour of exercise can be pretty daunting, but getting up early to vape a little bud and listen to good music (while doing exercise at the same time) is a pretty enticing prospect. And the icing on the cake is that at the end of it you’re not “intoxicated”, you’re just ready for a shower and to go off to work.
