What To Look For When Buying Hemp Flowers

Written by Ofer Shoshani

When buying CBD hemp flowers there are several elements that make all the difference between a regular product and a premium one. There are also some factors you need to be aware of in order to not break the law.

Read below to know what to look for when buying CBD hemp flowers.

Terpene profile

The difference between a delicious flower and a regular one comes from the terpene profile. You may have heard the term before when cannabis aficionados spoke about the taste and smell of their favorite strains. The same applies to hemp flowers. The preferred delivery system for hemp flowers is smoking or vaping, and the terpenes involved in a strain are becoming even more important since they impact smell, flavor, and therapeutic benefits. You can easily distinguish between one strain and another by the terpene profile.

Best advice: try before you buy! At least if it’s possible, and if not, look at the reviews to understand what the taste and smell are like. One last thing to keep in mind, if you’re trying to be healthy about it (and especially if you’re smoking CBD flowers for therapeutic benefits), it’s best to vape. For those who prefer to light up however, consider not mixing with tobacco to avoid unnecessary health risks.

CBD levels

CBD hemp flowers differ in their CBD levels. Regular CBD flowers have 3-6% CBD, High CBD flowers have 6-10%+ CBD in them. CBD flowers use the best delivery system (smoking/vaping) with the most instant ability for relief and therapeutic results. You might not always feel the difference in CBD levels, however if you can spend a bit more (12-15 euro/gr), you should give the High CBD flowers a try. Your body will thank you for it, especially if you choose vaping as your preferred delivery system.

Quality of product

The first thing you should do before buying a CBD hemp flower is check the quality. Is it trimmed? Is it seedless? Has it been cured and stored in the right way? You are buying a premium product which costs 10 euros a gram and up, it should look, smell and feel like a premium product! If the flowers have seeds in them, are too wet, or just don’t smell right, use them for tea but don’t smoke or vape them!

THC levels

THC regulations require that plants contain no more than 0.2% in most EU countries and 0.3% in the US. You should always be aware that consuming an illegal product makes you in violation of the law… Since you have no way to verify THC levels yourself, you need to insist on asking the seller (or looking at the lab results when it’s online) for the legality of the product. Though in reality it makes literally no difference to the user since the THC effect differences are negligible between 0.2% flowers and 1% flowers, why break the law if you can avoid it?

Legal EU hemp strains

This might come as a surprise, but not all hemp flowers are created equally. In fact, the EU is keeping a list of 68 ‘legal’ hemp strains, and they are the only ones that can be grown for CBD flowers. While there is no way to identify which hemp flowers come from ‘legal’  genetics and which don’t, you need to be aware that the problem exists legally. Best to leave it to the seller to verify the product.
