With all the wonderful health and wellness benefits CBD brings to the table, it’s no wonder it can also be used by athletes and sports enthusiasts to treat hairline fractures and even broken bones
Question: I play football and I have broken more bones than you can imagine. I love the game. It is my life – and my livelihood. I cannot afford to be out of the game long after a break a bone. Is there anything that you can suggest to “speed up” the healing of a fracture? It sounds like a fairytale wish, but I’m just hoping you can give me the answer…to my wish.
It is no fairytale, and you can have your wish. Research has already shown that there are CBD receptors in the bone. What has been recently shown – and proven, is that CBD can help bone fractures heal. In addition, when CBD is given to help a fracture to heal, the healed bone is actually stronger than the original bone.
CBD stimulates the osteoblasts, which are immature bone cells to create healthy new bone.
The study proving this was led by Dr. Yankel Gabet and was published in the Journal of Bone & Mineral Research.
It found that CBD sped up the healing process of rats’ broken bones. Those benefits were present when the cannabis molecule was separated from THC, the major psychoactive component of cannabis.
The rats given CBD had healing of the fractures in just eight weeks, rather than the usual twelve weeks. “We found, that CBD alone makes bones stronger during healing, enhancing the maturation of the collagenous matrix, which provides the bases for new mineralization of bone tissue. After being treated with CBD, the healed bone will be harder to break in the future,” said Dr. Yankel Gabet. “The clinical potential of cannabinoid-related compounds is simply undeniable at this point,” Gabet said.
