CBD & cannabis has long-been touted as a miracle solution for thousands of people suffering from a host of ailments. Ben Gurion University in Israel claims it’s ‘highly effective’ for treating the elderly

According to the researchers over in Israel, a country very adept when it comes to medical cannabis, CBD & medical cannabis can help those over 65 with the symptoms of chronic pain, without any nasty side, or adverse effects.

The new study, published in the European Journal of Internal Medicine, claims that therapeutic cannabis is safe for elderly patients suffering from pain due to “cancer, Parkinson’s disease, post-traumatic stress disorder, ulcerative colitis, Crohn’s disease, multiple sclerosis and other disorders.”

Meanwhile, internal medicine Prof. Victor Novack of BGU’s Faculty of Health Sciences and head of the Soroka Clinical Research Center, said, “While older patients represent a large and growing population of medical cannabis users, few studies have addressed how it affects this particular group, which also suffers from dementia, frequent falls, mobility problems, and hearing and visual impairments.”

Novack added that, “After monitoring patients 65 and older for six months, we found medical cannabis treatment significantly relieves pain and improves quality of life for seniors with minimal side effects reported.”

Ben Gurion University looked at 2,736 patients in Israel, aged 65+, noting that 60% of them use medical cannabis & CBD to treat pain from cancer and other conditions, with a great rate of success and no side effects. Of those who took part int he study, more than 93% of the subjects said their pain dropped significantly thanks to cannabis, while around 70% reported improvements in other medical conditions.

The results of the new research study are compelling in that they demonstrate that medical cannabis is effective for treating the elderly, offering great pain relief with minimal to no side effects. It’s now up to the Israeli government to decide whether medical cannabis & CBD are friend or foe, and at the same time, to figure out how to get people off of heavily addictive prescription drugs like opioids.
